Description
Human rights respect and protection is a cross-cutting issue in several public policies at local level. The right to a fair city pays special attention to gender and equality. At the same time, in the digital era, the right to privacy guides the fight for human rights by many movements in fields such as “human right by design” platforms or problems such as videosurveillance by public WIFI devices.
Furthermore, the income redistribution mechanisms and the polycentrism of cities are key to shed light on the territorial debate and fight against the socio-spatial segregation resulting from the market-based processes that build cities. A decentralized approach to put resources and decisión-making mechanisms in the popular peripheries is essential to address “the commons” and guarantee the fulfilment of human rights.
