Isaac Ashai Odamtten

Mayor of Tema Metropolitan Assembly, President of National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG)

Hon. Odamtten is the Mayor of the metropolitan city of Tema in Ghana. Tema is Ghana’s port and industrial city with population of 350,000 citizens.

Mayor Odamtten’s vision is to transform Tema into a smart and futuristic city, providing services for citizens in an efficient, sufficient and affordable manner. He launched an agenda which encompassed the total rejuvenation of the city. This agenda has so far transformed Tema into the most vibrant and economically booming city in Ghana. This is evidenced by a 200% increase in the Internally Generated Revenue mobilized for the city. Also, Tema has been ranked 1st on the annual Ghana District Assembly League table assessed by international development partners and CSO’s. This performance has earned him recognition and acknowledgement from far and wide. Currently, he has embarked on a project to transform Tema into an ultra-modern smart city. The project costing $6.5 billion will offer citizens the opportunity to live, work and leisure harmoniously in ‘the City at the center of the world” as Tema is fondly called ostensibly due to its closeness to the Greenwich Meridian and Equator. This massive project is to promote international tourism and kick-start a vast renewable energy (solar/wind) generation.

Furthermore, Mayor Odamtten has voluntarily committed to a joint initiative of Transparency International and the UCLG-A, to conduct an assessment on transparency, accountability and integrity of local government practices in his metropolis. This initiative will showcase the incorruptible practices of the city of Tema and provide an exchange of best practices among other metropolitan cities for peer to peer learning.
Prior to been elected mayor, he was a consultant and a senior banker
