President of Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities (VVSG)
Luc Martens (18/04/1946) has a long standing political career. He was mayor of the city of Roeselare from 2005 till the beginning of 2016. Currently, he is president of the Association of Flemish local authorities (VVSG) as of 2010 and member of the executive board of the ‘De Lijn’, the public transport company in Flanders. He is also member of the executive board of Eandis, a leading company in the energy sector. Recently, he joined the executive board of VLEVA, the Liaison Agency Flanders-Europe. Luc Martens has been Minister of Culture and Welfare in the Flemish government, member of the Flemish Parliament and of the federal Senate, chair of the parliamentary commission on Welfare, Health and Family and he is still local councilor in his own city of Roeselare. He has a particular interest in strategic planning, urban development, external relations, safety, culture, welfare and education. Luc Martens is member of the CD&V, the Christian Democratic party in Flanders, Belgium.
