President of Plaine Commune (Paris metropolitan area)
Co-President of the UCLG Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights
Born in Paris in 1950, Mr Patrick Braouezec is, since 2004, the President of the urban community of Plaine Commune (Paris metropolitan area) and member of the Saint-Denis’ City Council –where he was Mayor between 1991 and 2004. He was also member of the French National Assembly, representing the Seine-Saint-Denis district. Now already retired, he was school teacher in his hometown before entering politics. His commitment for social inclusion, human rights and the right to the city has been translated into his involvement in the global municipalist movement, especially through the promotion of the European Charter for the Safeguarding of Human Rights in the City, adopted in Saint-Denis in 2000, and the participation in the political leadership of the UCLG Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights.
